Netherhall Celebrates World Book Day

Netherhall Celebrates World Book Day

Thursday 2nd March 2017

To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March, 40 members of staff came to school dressed as fictional characters. Costumes ranged from Severus Snape, Miss Havisham and Arthur Dent to The Very Hungry Caterpillar and the Cat in the Hat. Some whole departments in the school even coordinated themed outfits, with the Sixth Form team recreating 'Peter Pan' and the Art Department confusing everyone with their matching 'Where's Wally?' outfits.

'We really wanted to do something to celebrate the vibrant culture of independent reading that we have at Netherhall,' said Alison Binney, Head of English, dressed as Katniss Everdeen for the day. 'Our students have really enjoyed spotting fictional characters they recognise - some from books from their early childhood and some from the young adult fiction that they're reading now. And it's good for them to see their teachers as readers themselves - people who are passionate about books, whether they teach Science, Art or English.'
