Key Initiatives

Netherhall Pride

In 2012, London will host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is the first time that the Olympic and Paralympic Games have been organised under one umbrella, and the London Organising Committee for the Olympic & Paralympic Games (LOCOG) have a stated aim of
“Using the inspiration of the Games to change lives”.
Netherhall aims to use the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to inspire learning across the curriculum for all children and young people at Netherhall, and within our extended community, through our sport specialism. At Netherhall, this will be delivered through the NETHERHALLPRIDE initiative.
PRIDE is based on a simplified version of the seven values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

  • Personal Excellence
  • Respect & Friendship
  • Inspiration
  • Determination & Courage
  • Equality

The Olympic and Paralympic values have strong links to the National Curriculum aims of developing:

  • Successful Learners
  • Confident Individuals
  • Responsible Citizens

At Netherhall, we believe that Every Child Matters, and that each individual within our school community can aspire to achieve elements of PRIDE and be proud of their school and local community.
Netherhall will be developing the PRIDE initiative at Netherhall and across our partner schools through our sport specialism.

Case Study PRIDE World Cup

The PE, EAL and ICT departments at Netherhall got together to host the PRIDE World Cup, with the finals being played in Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week.
To celebrate the schools cultural diversity (Over 40 languages are spoken) the school hosted a 6-a-side football tournament with a difference. Each team that entered the tournament was drawn a country to represent, which each team member having to learn the PRIDE World Cup pledge:
I pledge to try my best; respect officials and other teams; to inspire my team mates and to show courage.”
Staff and students across the school translated the pledge into a range of different languages and these were uploaded to the school intranet as podcasts, along with each nations National Anthem and lyrics.
Prior to matches, each team made their pledge in their nation’s language. National flags were also displayed at matches. Teams also had to commit to demonstrating respect in matches and handshakes before and after matches were expected. The PRIDE World Cup Finals were held one evening after school, with friends and parents invited to attend. At the finals, National Anthems were played and an Opening Ceremony held, before the matches were played. All competitors in the PRIDE World Cup received a Lloyds TSB National School Sports Week certificate and sticker.
