Welcome to the Sports College section of the website.

Netherhall has been a specialist sports college since 2001. Sports Colleges are one of ten specialist areas for schools and are an important part of the Government’s plans to raise standards in secondary education.

Sports Colleges are not just about PE and Sport. At Netherhall we use our specialist status across the school and the extended Netherhall community.

As a Sports College, we have five main outcomes:

• To raise standards in Physical Education at Netherhall.
• To raise standards in a second specialist subject (Art)
• To raise standards across the school
• To raise standards of PE in partner secondary and primary schools
• To improve learning in sport and physical activity in the wider community

At Netherhall we are looking to develop a visible Sports College character throughout the school and within the local community which inspires our students. The strategic purpose of our sports college status is “To inspire and value each student to be healthy, active and to achieve well in a happy and stimulating environment that is high in expectation.”

Students at Netherhall are given significant opportunity to develop their health and wellbeing through a range of sporting clubs and activities, but sports college status is about more than just sport. We aim to raise standards across all areas of the curriculum through a range of initiatives. In recent years our student leadership programme has extended from Sports Leadership into areas such as Dance, Fitness Instructing, Arts and Modern Foreign Languages, as well as extending into our partner primary schools through the Young Leaders Award.

We are eagerly anticipating London hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and our NETHERHALLPRIDE initiative, based on the values of the Olympics and Paralympic, aims to use the Olympic and Paralympic message to inspire learning across the entire curriculum at Netherhall.
