Travel and Tourism

Travel and Tourism is one of the world’s fastest growing industries, with over two million people employed in tourism related industries in the UK.

At Netherhall, students are taught the AQA AS and A2 Travel and Tourism single award course by the Geography Department. The course will enable students to progress to qualifications in further and higher education, training or employment. Students complete the following modules:

AS Course

Unit 1: Inside Travel and Tourism*

Unit 2: Travel and Tourism – A People Industry

Unit 3: Travel Destinations

An introductory module which investigates the nature of the industry.

A study of how a large organisation functions.

A study of a variety of tourist destinations and why they are appealing to customers.

A2 Course

Unit 8: Travel and Tourism Project

Unit 9: Travel and Tourism – People and Quality*

Unit 10: Current Issues in Travel and Tourism

This unit gives students practical experience of organising trips and excursions.

A study of the customer service methods used in the travel and tourism industry.

This unit allows students to explore an individually chosen aspect of the industry.

* Assessed by examination, the other units are assessed by portfolio (coursework)

How will you study?

You will research and investigate a wide range of issues relating to travel and tourism. These will be based around a series of assignments which aim to provide you with the knowledge and understanding needed for examination and portfolio success.

Educational Visits

Case studies will be used to provide students with real examples of the travel and tourism industry; currently these include excursions to BAA Stansted, visitor attractions and the Menzies Hotel Group.
