Film studies is great fun, giving you the opportunity to enjoy watching, understanding and creating film. You will consider issues such as film funding, censorship and stars. Be prepared to become a critical viewer and researcher.

AS Film Studies
You will explore elements of film such as genre, cinematography, screenplay, sets, costume and editing. You will analyse one film in detail, and two films belonging to a particular genre. There is also an opportunity to write your own film synopsis, and create a storyboard. You will learn about the Hollywood and British film industries.

AS Assessment
60% examination, 40% coursework

A2 Film Studies
You will develop your understanding of film through studying an ‘auteur’ filmmaker with a distinctive and personal style, and a four minute film. The course considers aspects of world cinema, and examines a genre such as surrealist cinema. You will also study issues like censorship, and feminist perspectives in film.

50% examination, 50% coursework
