New York Visit

The Business Studies and Economics department take their AS/A2 students to New York once every two years.  This means that any student following the A level course will have the chance to go.

As a part of the trip we take part in a conference and tour of the UN Headquarters.  The students get the chance to liaise with key personnel who work at the UN and are encouraged to discuss diverse issues.

The topics this year included:   UN involvement in Iraq, child poverty, the environment and the issue of freedom of speech.

We also participate in the Business Studies conference held at the University of New York.  This year we got to speak with directors from Publicis Groupes, Unilever, Virgin Atlantic and the New York Metropolitan Museum.

The students gained a great of experience from this event both in terms of their own development and in terms of linking taught material to “real life”.  Particularly memorable was the students’ realisation that they were speaking to the man behind the latest adverts that they had seen on television relating to Cadbury’s, especially when they were allowed to discuss the rationale behind the adverts as well.
