Music

Music

Music makes a significant contribution to pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Pupils in years 7-9 follow a mainly practical curriculum where they are encouraged to work together to learn to create and perform music in a variety of styles, including world music and electronic music. Pupils also enjoy learning to notate music through a series of theory exercises and use of music technology.

GCSE Music – Edexcel, code 2Mu01 (from 2010)

Music is a popular option at Key Stage four with classes in years 10 and 11 leading to the Edexcel GCSE. During the course you will develop skills in composition, performance and listening through assignments in a series of modules. There are four areas of study:

Coursework is completed under controlled conditions and consists of two compositions, one solo performance and one ensemble performance. The GCSE course provides a suitable foundation for further study such as AS and A Level Music/Music Technology.

Pupils of all abilities and ages have opportunities to extend their learning outside the classroom through a wide range of clubs and activities, which include:

Messages from parents….

“…..a really excellent Arts Festival last Thursday. Netherhall School at its very best - great exhibits and performances, plus fantastic support from the kids for their peers' hard work and stagecraft.”

“.. I have attended (and a long time ago, been part of) a lot of school exhibitions, concerts and shows over the years - but I have never been to one as impressive as last night.

It wasn’t only the content and standard of the Art work, drama, dance and music that was so impressive - but the engagement and sheer joy actually of the children in what they were doing.”

“Just wanted to say well done to everyone involved in the arts festival - we enjoyed the evening so much, and there was such a great atmosphere.”
