Access Arrangements

The Exams Officer and the SENCO will organise access arrangements for students during exams, such as:

  • Use of a word processor
  • Having a reader
  • Supervised rest brakes
  • Having a prompter
  • A separate room to sit the exam
  • Enlarged exam papers
  • Additional time (up to 25% of the exam set length)
  • Bi-lingual dictionary

By October each year, the SENCO, form tutors, subject teachers, Subject Leaders, Key Stage Managers, the Head of Sixth Form and parents should inform the Exams Officer of any students who may be eligible for access arrangements during exams. It may be that students with a particular condition or disease, but without any specific learning difficulty be entitled to an access arrangement.

All Access Arrangements requests must be submitted to and agreed by the Exam Boards.

Emergency Access Arrangements

It is also possible to provide Access Arrangements due to unexpected circumstances in the ability of a student sitting an exam. For example, if a student is unable to write as a consequence of a broken arm / hand, a scribe can be arranged as well as a separate room for that student to sit one or all exams.
